Love and Gelato is about a girl named Lina, whose mother died a few months before. She then learns that she has a dad she never knew about living in Italy. She goes there to live with him, and in doing that, gets to experience Italy and meet new people. She also learns more about her mom and how it was when she lived there. It's a very nice story and I loved being able to learn more about Italy, since I'm very interested in it myself.
One of the places they visit in the book is called Ponte Vecchio, which is an old bridge in Florence. It's really beautiful (I've looked at a lot of pictures haha), so I decided to make that as my art piece inspired by the book.
I ended up starting with watercolor and I really tried blending it further to give it more texture. Then I went in with black ink and I added more texture/detail, but also outlined things. I love the combination of the black ink and the watercolor. I feel like it gave the image an illustration-type vibe, which I really love.
