American Royals Audiobook Review

So lately I've been getting into audiobooks. I used to love reading only traditional paperback or hardcover books. Ebooks and audiobooks never interested me. But I recently found out that the library has these types of books and decided to try them. I've actually listened to quite a few great audiobooks since trying it out. And this is the first one I'm reviewing!

American Royals by Katherine McGee is a fictional story about what if America had a monarchy instead of a democracy. What if George Washington decided to become king of the United States and his family continued to rule it to this day. It's a really great concept, I love following the British royals myself, so I thought this was so cool to read.

The story follows 4 women who are main characters in the story. Beatrice, first in line for the throne, who always follows the rules and strives to be perfect. Sam, younger sister to Beatrice, who is jealous of her and constantly acts out. Nina, Sam's best friend, who also happens to like Jeff, Sam and Beatrice's brother. And lastly is Daphne, who is the ex-girlfriend of Jeff and wants to win him back and be a princess.

I loved the narrator for this audiobook, I think she did a really great job doing the different voices. Granted some did sound similar, but there were so many characters that it's hard to make each one completely unique. As for the story, I loved following the different perspectives of these women. You really get a feel for what they're going through and feeling. The characters have a lot more to depth to them than you immediately realize. Most of the women I loved more as I learned more about them, but Daphne I actually liked even less. I don't want to give away spoilers, but let's just say she isn't a nice person.

Other than Daphne's character, I really loved the story and the characters. I loved getting an insight into their world and seeing the relationships grow between these people as well. Beatrice was my favorite character in the book, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of her story. Especially with how things ended.

And there is a sequel planned, so I am definitely looking forward to that!

Let me know which way to read is your favorite, and what you thought of this book if you've read it.

I hope you enjoyed my review!
